Like castles, mosques and churches, the roads of Cyprus are part of the island’s historic heritage. Up to now, they have not received the same degree of attention, but it is to be hoped that, at least in the upland areas, it will be possible to preserve some sections of ancient roads, perhaps as hiking tracks in natural reserves This will give future generations an impression of the vast effort that the inhabitants and conquerors of ancient Cyprus invested in the road network of the island.
